Guest of Honor: Elizabeth Moon
A resident of Florence, TX, ELIZABETH MOON burst onto the fantasy
scene in the late 80's with her fantasy trilogy consisting of the
novels Sheepfarmer's Daughter (1988), Divided Allegiance (1988),
and Oath of Gold (1989). This series, later collected into the omnibus
edition The Deed of Paksennarion (1992), has been praised for its
realistic depiction of a soldier's life, for which Moon drew from
her experiences as a medic in the U. S. Marine Corps. A prequel to
the Paksennarion series, Surrender None: The Legacy of Gird, was
published in 1990.
Prior to publication of her first novel, Moon wrote several science
fiction and fantasy stories that appeared in the major SF magazines
such as Analog. The best of these stories are collected in Lunar
Activity (1990).
Moon collaborated with Anne McCaffrey on a science fiction series
entitled "Planet Pirates". Together, Moon and McCaffrey wrote volume
1, Sassinak (1990), and volume 3, Generation Warriors (1992).
These novels, along with volume 2 (cowritten by Jody Lynn Nye and
McCaffrey), appear together in the omnibus Planet Pirates (1994).
Moon started a new series in 1993 with the publication of Hunting
Party, a humorous science fiction adventure novel. Recently, the
sequel Sporting Chance (1994) was published to enthusiastic reviews.
