seeking students!
HOW
TO ENROLL
Send
1) $65 -- the fee includes a delicious
box lunch and full con membership,
2) your original work of science
fiction, fantasy, or horror fiction*,
3) the signed, filled out Permission
Slip and 3) the completed Membership
Application to the address below.
*
Please see the Manuscript Details,
below!
The
deadline is July 6, 2006.
We
must have received all four elements
(fee, manuscript, permission
slip, membership form) before you
are officially enrolled in the
workshop! If you have not received
a confirmation email within fourteen
days of your sending everything
in, please contact the Coordinators.
Details
Fee
You
can send a check made out to "ArmadilloCon." You
may also pay via
PayPal. (See the membership application
for details.)
Manuscript
Only
one submission, only your own
work, and only science fiction,
fantasy or horror, please!
You
may send in either electronic format
(Microsoft Word, PDF or RTF format)
of your manuscript to the Coordinators,
or hardcopy to:
FACT
/ Writers' Workshop
PO Box 27277
Austin TX 78755
Please
note the Coordinators will only
view the manuscript after you have
bought a membership payment and
the permission slip has been received.
We
recommend that you send in a short
story (it allows the professionals
to see your ability to build an
entire story), but the first chapter(s)
of a novel is also acceptable.
The maximum length is 5000
words. Manuscripts longer than
the maximum will be shortened
at the ArmadilloCon 28 offices.
Format your manuscript professionally
-- double-spaced, using 12-point
Courier or Times typeface, and
indicate new paragraphs with
a 5-space tab (not an extra line).
If printed, print only on one
side of a 8.5'' x 11'' white
sheet of paper. Most writing
books and many online sources
describe what professional formatting
looks like if you have questions.
Please
note the Coordinators will only
view the manuscript after you have
bought a membership payment and
the permission slip has been received.
Permission
Slip
With
the work you submit, you will also
need to provide us with permission
to distribute your story to the
other workshoppers. Please print
and fill out the Permission
Slip and either:
Scan
and email to
or mail it to:
FACT
/ Writers' Workshop, PO Box 27277,
Austin TX 78755
(If
you cannot view the Permission
Slip, please contact the .)
Membership
You
can find the Membership Form here.
What
Happens When You Enroll
You
will receive the manuscripts
of the other students in your group
about two weeks before the workshop
for you to review and critique
ahead of time. The bulk of the
workshop time will be taken up
by breaking into smaller groups
for in-depth critiques of your
manuscripts. The balance of the
workshop will include lectures,
discussions, writers' exercises,
handouts, etc. from the pro writers/editors.
Cancellations
If
you miss the workshop on Friday,
August 11, we will mail your manuscript
and the critiques we can gather
to you. No refunds once manuscripts
are mailed to the pros.
Questions
Do
you have any questions about the
Writers' Workshop? Please e-mail
the Coordinators.
Hope to see you August 11th!
