ArmadilloCon 31 Announces Guests of Honor

ArmadilloCon, a literary science-fiction/fantasy convention held annually in Austin, is proud to announce the Guests of Honor for their 31st convention to be held August 14-16, 2009.

"I am so excited by these Guests of Honor," said Kimm Antell, chair of the convention. "We have a great line-up with a Texas feel, but also an All-Star cast."

The six Guests of Honor come with many accolades and showcase some of the brightest minds in the genre.

Special Guest of Honor: Joan D. Vinge. Joan has written what some claim to be one of the best science-fiction books of the 20th Century, The Snow Queen. This novel won the Hugo Award for Best SF Novel in 1981. Additionally, she has won and been nominated for many other awards and continues to write outstanding fiction.

Guest of Honor: Scott Lynch. Scott has two books to his name and another five under contract. He was twice nominated for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Science Fiction Writer and people who love stories about thieves and conmen will get a real kick out of meeting this writer from Minnesota.

Artist Guest of Honor: Stephan Martiniere. Stephan, an artist from France who now hails from Chicago, added a 2008 Hugo Award to his long list of accolades including two Spectrum awards, a Chesley award and an Emmy nomination. Not only is he known as an outstanding cover artist, but he has done a great deal of work on several movies including Star Wars: Episode II & III and I, Robot.

Editor Guest of Honor: Chris Roberson. Austin-native Chris Roberson is one of the brightest stars to hit the science-fiction circuit in years. Chris not only edits, but he also writes and runs MonkeyBrain Books along with his lovely wife, Allison Baker. He has been nominated for the John W. Campbell Award and World Fantasy Awards and he won the Sidewise Award in 2004.

Fan Guest of Honor: Karen Meschke. Karen is a longtime Austin fan with many years of fandom under her belt. She was the chair of LoneStarCon 2 (the Texas WorldCon in 1997), chair of BoucherCon in 2002 and also created and chaired Conmisterio 1 & 2. She has also chaired several ArmadilloCon in the past.

Toastmaster: Scott A. Cupp. Scott is the self-proclaimed "Greatest Living Sci-Fi Short Story Writer in San Antonio, TX." He won the 1991 Golden Pagoda Award for Best New Writer, and was a John W. Campbell Award Nominee in 1991 and World Fantasy Nominee for Best Anthology in 2007.

"If you have never been to ArmadilloCon, now is the time to start," said Antell. "Not only do we have these great guests, but we also feature 75-100 regional guests who love to sit around and talk books, movies, anthologies and anything and everything to do with sci-fi, fantasy and horror."

So come to ArmadilloCon 31 and enjoy the panels, dealers' room, writers' workshop, art show, gaming and so much more! You won't be disappointed.
